New parents that have very little babysitting experience are in for a rude awakening when it comes time for baby poops. The first few bowel movements, called meconium, your baby has will be very dark and very thick. At first the poop will not smell very much but once your child starts eating baby food it will begin to look and smell like what they ate for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Believe me, a green pea diaper is not necessarily a treat to change.
Some parents stock up on grocery store bags and place dirty diapers inside, tie them up with a tie knot and then run them out to the garbage can in the garage but after a few changes the garage will start to have a horrible odor especially if it is hot outside.
The best thing to do is to invest or register for a diaper pail. There are lots of different options out there but I love my Diaper Genie II. It is very discreet, fits perfectly in the corner of the nursery and it does a fantastic job of hiding all the odors. It comes with a blue odor-preventing plastic liner that hides the odor of your baby diapers. You place the dirty diaper into a hole in the top of the diaper pail, push it down and then twist the circular liner to trap the odor inside. It holds a weeks worth of diapers inside the pail so for your convenience you only have to empty out on your designated garbage pick-up day.
So, do yourself and your nose a favor by purchasing a diaper pail.
